Frequently Asked Questions
-
You will receive credit within a week of completing the substitute teacher training with NWGA RESA. Your certificate will not be sent to you via our office, but will be available to you through your NWGA RESA account.
-
You can view your certificate by going to our website and logging into your account. Once you have logged in, look for the “course history” button on the left hand side of the screen. Clicking on that will take you to a course history screen, where your substitute teacher training should populate. There will be a button at the bottom of the course listing that says “generate certificate”. Clicking this will download a PDF of the certificate, which you can print. NOTE: Make sure that your name, work location, and district is “Substitute Teacher” before downloading the certificate so that it appears correctly.
-
Substitute Teacher Training at NWGA RESA costs $50. The fee must be paid by the registrant. Reimbursement of any kind, if it is being offered, must be decided between the registrant and the district they are working in.
-
No, NWGA RESA is not involved in the onboarding or hiring process for the districts. You must contact your district(s) of choice regarding the hiring and onboarding process.
-
Your location and district should both be “Substitute Teacher”. This ensures that this is displayed on your certificate, and that you are able to apply and work in most of the districts in our service area (you will have to check with any given district to make sure that they accept our certification beforehand).
-
Your certificate will be valid for most of the 17 districts in our service area, and most districts require our training in order for you to become a substitute teacher. However, every district has a different set of rules and procedures, so you will need to check directly with your district of choice to know if our training program is acceptable for them.
-
Every district has a different set of procedures. You should check with your district directly in order to ensure that you are taking the appropriate steps in the correct order.
-
Your certification is valid for 5 years after your substitute teacher training, so long as you use your certification. If you do not use your certification within 2 years, you will need to retake the substitute teacher training in order to regain certification. It is important to check with your district, as each district has different certification timing and requirements.
-
If you are unable to attend your scheduled substitute teacher training, you can contact the registrar’s office and get it rescheduled. NWGA RESA offers a one time transfer, free of charge, to any upcoming available substitute teacher training we have listed on our website within the same fiscal year (beginning July 1st and ending June 30th the following year).
-
According to NWGA RESA’s policy, refunds are not given for substitute teacher training (barring extreme extenuating circumstances/emergencies, in which case, refunds are given at the discretion of the registrar’s office). This is explained further in NWGA RESA’s cancellation policy.
-
You should notify us of any absences by contacting the registrar’s office (preferably one week prior to the class). They will withdraw you, and give you a manual transfer to the future class of your choice at that time.
-
No. If you are unable to attend your currently scheduled class, the registrar can manually transfer you to an upcoming available class of your choice. If you sign up for another class instead of allowing her to manually transfer you, we cannot guarantee a refund for the original class.
-

You do not need to travel anywhere physically, as the Zoom meeting will be occurring remotely/virtually. However, you will need to be in a place where you are able to speak into your microphone if need be, and your camera must be on.
