I think I qualify for One Year Supervised Practicum... now what?

These program guidelines apply only to those entering Alternative Certification Programs for 2008-2009.

Program One Year Supervised Practicum

(Test-Based Option)
Certification Level Non-Renewable
Process for Application
  1. Secure a position with a school system in the Northwest Georgia RESA service area
    (For a list of school systems served by Northwest Georgia RESA: www.nwgaresa.com)

  2. Employing school system submits a recommendation to OYSP with Northwest Georgia RESA AND requests that an electronic application be forwarded to the potential Beginning Teacher (BT)

  3. Application is sent electronically to potential BT from Northwest Georgia RESA

  4. The potential BT receives the electronic application from Northwest Georgia RESA and provides Northwest Georgia RESA with a completed application packet

    A completed application packet includes:
    - A Northwest Georgia RESA One Year Supervised Practicum
      Application
    -Transcripts from all colleges attended
    -Copy of GACE Basic Skills Assessment scores (or SAT, ACT, or
     GRE scores high enough to exempt or passing Praxis I scores prior to
     September 1. 2006 (Exemption criteria:
     http://www.gapsc.com/documentation/basicskillsinfo.asp)
    -Copy of GACE Content Assessment score (or Praxis II Content prior
     to September 1, 2006)
    -Copy of GACE Professional Pedagogy Assessment score (or
     Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) prior to September 1, 2006)
    -Current resume
    -Two letters of reference (from someone other than relative)
    -$2500.00 registration fee

Program Requirements

DEMONSTRATION OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND DISPOSITIONS: The program shall require the demonstration of competencies in the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for accomplished teaching.

  • Portfolio

  • Classroom Observations with Pre/Post-Conferences with Beginning Teacher Support Team

  • Individual Induction Plan

  • Transcripts for completion of all Georgia Special Requirements courses

  • Required class sessions

Special Education courses if applying for Interrelated Special Education (provided through the program).
 

Assessments
  • Observations by RESA assigned Supervisor

  • Portfolio with rubrics for scoring based on Danielson's Frameworks scored at the Proficient performance level

Length of Program  1 Year
Program Fees

$2500.00 due with registration

  • All fees are subject to change based on enrollment and are non-refundable

  • Failure to make payment by deadline will result in being dropped from program

Certification Process

The school system submits the official transcripts and requests a Clear-Renewable certificate to the Professional Standards Commission
